Category Buyer - Indirect
Hybrid: 2 days in Peterlee (SR8), 2 days in Skinningrove (TS13), 1 day WFH
12 Month Contract - likely to extend for the right person + be based fully in Skinningrove after the initial 12 months
36.5 hours a week with a lunchtime finish on a Friday! (08:30-16:30 Mon-Thurs, 08.30-12:30 Fri)
Up to £23.90 per hour PAYE / Up to £32.10 per hour via Umbrella contract
We’re looking for an Indirect Category Buyer to use their procurement expertise to purchase machinery, equipment, tools, parts, supplies or services, for a globally renowned Fortune 100 off highway machinery manufacturer. You’ll work across their 2 sites in Peterlee and Skinningrove, spending 2 days at each site per week, on the remaining day you’ll be able to work from home. What will the Category Buyer - Indirect do?
- Indirect purchasing – buying all items for the Skinningrove facility
- Support execution of category strategy for Tailored Categories and Develop and manage suppliers’ performance (QCLDM), support OPACC improvement agenda (OIA)
- Gain deep understanding of supply base in Europe
- Manage policies, agreements, source catalogues, and special purchasing programs
- Provide leadership for sourcing, logistics and resource management decisions
- Lead continuous improvement initiatives
- Daily tasks such as but not limited to Invoice grief, Supplier shortages, Expediting materials
- Responsible for the management of PO’s, in line with company compliance Regulations
- Administration relating to Procurement and purchasing of indirect materials and services.
- Evaluate and monitor contract performance and Manage Procurement metrics
What skills and experience will the Category Buyer - Indirect need?
- 3 years minimum experience as a Buyer, preferably from a manufacturing background
- Negotiation skills - used to working with suppliers to manage supply chain
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, positive outlook for a win/win resolution
- Ability to prioritise work in a dynamic environment
- Strong Excel skills. Used to using Microsoft Office, Visio & purchasing systems
- Indirect purchasing experience would be an advantage
- Understanding of Lean Manufacturing principles and QCLDM – desirable
- MCIPS qualified or Power BI knowledge would be an advantage
