Supplier Development Engineer - Peterlee
Initial 12 month contract - likely to extend for the right person
36.5 hours a week, Mon – Fri 08.00 – 16.00
Up to £37.80 PAYE hourly rate plus holiday and pension contribution OR Umbrella hourly rates up to £51.31 - depending on experience

Our client is a worldwide manufacturer of construction and mining products. They’re looking for a Supplier Development Engineer on an initial 12 month contract basis which is likely to extend for the right person; to assess supplier quality and ensure that all the products are free from defects and are following manufacturing specifications and legal standards.
What will the Supplier Development Engineer do?
- Take care of suppliers, mainly for the Harness category
- Ensure the quality of supplies by conducting tests and assessments on incoming supplies to identify any quality issues; Developing supplier inspection, testing, and evaluation mechanism.
- Generate reports on supplier quality, by monitoring their defect rates and areas that can lead to potential flaws; Guiding suppliers to reduce these defect rates.
- Research the potential vendors, assessing their manufacturing environment, practices, and procedures; Conducting supplier quality control audits to ensure compliance with organizational and federal policies and standards.
- Support suppliers in improving their performance through process enhancements, implementing process controls, and developing quality assurance plans.
- Ensure Production Part Approval Process (PPAP) is completed and approved before new parts are delivered. This includes leadership in Advanced Product Quality Planning (APQP) activity
- Some travel required: up to 50% of the time
What skills and experience does the Supplier Development Engineer need?
- 5 years’ experience working with suppliers. You’ll have high technical knowledge in manufacturing & quality systems.
- Must have knowledge and understanding of: supplier audits, PPAP and APQP experience, as well as Build in quality skills i.e. to be able to determine route cause and implement action
- Strong written and verbal communication skills dealing with both internal and external partners
- Process improvement, attention to detail and strong problem-solving ability - looking for someone with the passion to perform well and achieve required outcomes
- Quality orientated with Supplier Management (MFG) and knowledge of manufacturing standards, procedures and policies as well as supplier evaluations and certification
- PC literate: used to using MS Office suite – you’ll be trained on our client’s software.
