Supplier Development Engineer

Stafford - Initial 6 Month Contract - likely to be ongoing for the right person

Up to £23.85 per hour PAYE/Up to £31.30 per hour via an umbrella company

We’re looking for a Supplier Development Engineer to join a globally renowned major Engine OEM in Stafford! Every day is very different; but ultimately you will be responsible for supporting NPI Projects, working closely with suppliers to ensure quality using PPAP. Whilst this is initially a 6 month contract, it’s likely to be ongoing for the right person.

At the moment the role is mainly WFH but you will need to be onsite at least one day a week, you will also need to visit suppliers.

What would the Supplier Development Engineer do?

  • Primarily support the Supplier Quality Engineer and NPI Projects – assessing suppliers for QCLDM and driving implementation of Lean & APQP processes.

  • Proactive work with suppliers up to PPAP submission point.  Using quality product planning tools, checking suppliers at each gateway.

  • Work onsite with suppliers confirming live data of quality of products and that they have the correct number of parts.

  • PPAP: Confirming the systems are in the PPAP and cross referencing the PPAP. Confirming the output of the process and checking over the measurement criteria.

  • Travel: some travel will be required, as you will need to spend time onsite with suppliers.

What skills and experience will the Supplier Development Engineer need?

  • Previous demonstrable experience of dealing with suppliers, PPAP and APQP processes within an engineering or manufacturing background.

  • Experience in the development of Supplier metrics and problem resolution between supplier and plants, suppliers, and engineering personnel, and between facilities.

  • Excellent communication skills and leadership is required to develop a cooperative working relationships with others, both internally and externally.

  • Solid ability to use and demonstrate statistical and problem-solving tools is required.

  • Ability to read engineering drawings and a sound understanding of the following technologies; Ferrous and Non Ferrous Casting, Automotive Fasteners/Fixings, Precision Machining, Fabrication.

  • Demonstratable in depth knowledge of Supplier Issue Investigation tools e.g.: Root Cause Analysis, PFMEA, 5 WHYS, FISHBONE/6M, ECA/ICA/PCA (STOP/FIX)

  • 6 Sigma methodology experience is highly desired.
