Battery Test Engineer

Permanent, salary: up to £53,525 depending on experience

Based on site in Bedford

40 hours a week (Mon – Fri, 08.00–16.30 or 08.30–17.00)

Have you carried out testing on Batteries for performance, life cycle, durability, safety etc? Do you pride yourself on ensuring tests are performed correctly in conformance with international and customer standards? Can you clearly document and report on your test conclusions?

We’re looking for a Battery Test Engineer who can answer “yes” to the above questions, to join a Company offering customisable vehicle testing solutions, which include; proving grounds and laboratories for vehicle engineering and homologation for transport, agricultural and defence industries (amongst others!). This is an excellent opportunity to develop your experience and skills in a world class battery testing environment with the support of an experienced and highly competent team. What would the Battery Test Engineer do?

  • Establish test content including review and inclusion of any regulatory requirements
  • Prepare internal test execution documentation
  • Development of Risk Assessments, support the strong culture of safe working
  • Programming of test equipment
  • Undertake analysis of results, including statements of conformity or engineering observations and interpretations
  • Apply continuous improvement methods to activities and facilities to ensure ever improving processes and test methods
  • Working in accordance with ISO 17025

What skills and experience will the Battery Test Engineer need?

  • Minimum of 2 years hands on experience performing tests within a lab or workshop environment, or working in the design and development of batteries, especially those containing lithium (Desirable)
  • Working with electric vehicles or sub-systems or other relevant HV systems (Desirable)
  • Experience of CAN (Desirable)
  • Development and commissioning of test rigs and apparatus
  • Selection + application of various types of instrumentation and of data acquisition systems
  • Ability to complete data analysis, present the results and write technical reports
  • Understanding of international standards, in particular UN/ECE Reg. 100, Reg 132 and “38.3” for batteries and Quality assurance, particularly ISO 9001 and ISO 17025 (Beneficial)

Essential Requirements for the Battery Test Engineer:

  • Flexibility to travel as and when required
  • Full UK driving licence & own transport (the site is not easily assessable via public transport)
  • Willing to undergo a Criminal Disclosure check
