Technical Author

Permanent, based on site in Bedford

Salary: up to £50K depending on experience

We’re looking for a Technical Author to join the ‘Special Vehicles’ arm of a leading Automotive Test facility. The successful Technical Author will join a dynamic Company providing the latest capabilities in customisable vehicle testing solutions, which include; proving grounds and laboratories for vehicle engineering and homologation for transport, agricultural and defence industries (amongst others!)

Due to the nature of work that you will be involved in, this role is based on site.

What would the Technical Author do?

  • Manage & own elements of Technical Publications /Authoring work/tasks

  • Liaise with product suppliers to compile data and information, and translate engineering details in order to produce physical/electronic documents, compliant with Def Stan’s & JSP’s

  • Commission, coordinate or prepare illustrations and occasionally technical training packages

  • Produce high quality, legislation compliant, technical documentation, and safety cases

  • Provide technical expertise in ensuring design teams have a clear understanding of the publication development, production, and upkeep process

  • Managing stakeholder relationships and provide updates

What skills and experience will the Technical Author need?

  • Previous experience as a Technical Author or similar within an engineering function

  • Knowledge/understanding of Def Stan 00-600, JSP 886, JSP 543(D), JSP 101 or similar would be ideal

  • Demonstrable ability in document control, change control & checking/reviewing procedures

  • Detailed understanding of standard office software

  • Basic Technical Illustration, graphic design

  • Good understanding of Quality Control management processes & familiar with working in an ISO 9001 / ISO 27001 environment

Essential requirements

  • Willing to undergo a Criminal Disclosure check

  • SC clearance or ability to achieve this (UK national with residency in the UK for the last 5 years)

  • Full UK driving license
