Base Engine Development Engineer
Peterborough – fully on site PE1
Initially 12 months – very long term extensions are highly likely
£31.50ph PAYE + holiday + pension or £42.75 umbrella rate
We’re excited to be recruiting for this opportunity with a global engineering manufacturer. The team is responsible for supporting both new product introduction (NPI) and existing engine platforms, working across a range of component revisions and development activities as designs progress from concept into validation and production.
This is a hands-on engineering role focused on supporting engine development, validation, and lifecycle improvement within a close-knit, collaborative team environment.
Key Responsibilities
• Support engine development activities across core base engine systems and components
• Work on both NPI programmes and existing product improvement projects
• Support design phase activities through into development and validation
• Assist with testing and development of engine components and systems
• Support product lifecycle activities including quality, reliability, and field issues
• Contribute to cost reduction and continuous improvement initiatives
• Work closely with suppliers to support component development and issue resolution
• Carry out technical investigations and problem-solving activities
• Support cross-functional engineering teams to deliver project requirements on time
Key Requirements
• Mechanical or Automotive Engineering qualification (or equivalent experience)
• 3+ years’ experience in engine, component, or mechanical development
• Strong understanding of internal combustion engines (ICE), ideally diesel
• Experience with mechanical components through development lifecycle (design → test → validation)
• Strong problem-solving and analytical skills
• Good understanding of manufacturing and engineering principles
• Ability to work collaboratively within a team and across suppliers
Desirable Experience
• Experience within off-highway, industrial, automotive or engine OEM environments
• Exposure to NPI and product lifecycle engineering
• Experience supporting quality, reliability or cost-down projects
• Familiarity with supplier collaboration and engineering issue resolution
• Awareness of FMEA / DVP&R methodologies
